What Is the Purpose of Christian Service?

We've spent a lot of time in class this semester talking about Christian service and following Ron and Deborah Hall in their Christian service. Now, as we're focusing on the pattern of division in our writing, it seems we should identify the reason for this service. We know what it's supposed to look like but why do we need to do it?
